This is a full-time, benefited position and is considered essential personnel. This position requires a post offer health assessment. A background check will be required.
As a Veterinary Technician based in Equine services at the UFVH at WEC, the incumbent will be assisting clinicians with examinations, treatments, hospitalized nursing care, jogging horses for lameness exams. They assist with clinical procedures including anesthetic inductions and recoveries, advanced diagnostic imaging, positioning of horses in the MRI and CT units and assist with surgical prep and surgical procedures.
An individual in this position must possess experienced horse handling skills and enjoy learning new things. Candidates should genuinely care about people and animals, be outgoing, enthusiastic and team players. They should endeavor to learn new things, quickly adapt to a changing environment, and express a positive attitude in their daily work. They must be able to communicate effectively, demonstrate critical thinking, professionalism, and be proactive in determining the needs of the hospital.
Additional important duties include internal communication, efficiency, organization and charge capture as well as improving the clients' experience when admitting inpatients and outpatients.
At the University of Florida, we place a high value on the role our Veterinary Technicians play in helping clinicians train the next generation of veterinary students. As a member of our nursing staff, you will play an instrumental role in instructing veterinary students in technical skills and performing medical treatments and procedures as directed by our veterinarians.
This is a physically demanding position that requires excellent horse handling skills and experience, and the candidate must not have any medical conditions or implants which would preclude entry into the high-field MRI suite.
Typical Schedule: Daytime shifts are available. This position may include working alternate shifts, weekends, holidays, and “on-call” duty. This position is considered essential personnel and requires a post-offer health assessment. Visa sponsorship is NOT available for this position.
Expected Salary: $18-30
Preferred Qualifications:
- Credentialed veterinary technician
- Experience in equine diagnostic imaging
- Experience in performing equine anesthesia
- Previous experience utilizing equine rehabilitation equipment
