Organization Overview

The Comparative Bioscience Center provides a comprehensive program of animal care in support of the University's in vivo research. The goal of our staff is to provide investigators with the highest level of research support at the lowest cost while ensuring the welfare of the animals used in the research. The center is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).

Overview

The Veterinary Technician II will be responsible for daily vivarium room rounds, regular communication with scientists, veterinarians, and animal husbandry staff. Will be required to work at least one weekend day each week and some holidays.

Responsibilities

  • regular communication with scientists, veterinarians, and animal husbandry staff regarding daily care
  • administering treatments prescribed by clinical veterinarians
  • monitoring cases, documentation of all health assessments, and follow-up care
  • Must participate in training initiatives for both investigative and husbandry staff, in-depth anesthesia monitoring for both large and small animal species, and active participation in quarterly sentinel health screenings
  • Various other responsibilities may also be assigned and can vary based upon personal interests, vivarium room round assignments, or departmental needs

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • LVT with A.A.S. or higher in Veterinary Technology
  • A minimum of one year of experience working in a research facility
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to a dynamic work environment and work successfully as part of a team while working with a broad variety of species
  • Must be able to follow established standard operating protocols, communicate concisely and effectively, with the ability to work independently and proactively
  • Must possess excellent computer skills, and working knowledge of Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Must be experienced working in a fast-paced, emergency/referral practice or veterinary teaching hospital, as well as multimodal anesthesia experience, necessary
  • Must be able to tolerate a significant amount of standing, bending, and walking
  • Must not be allergic to animals, latex, waste products, or bedding
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (AALAS) level is a plus
  • Strong anesthesia monitoring and anesthesia protocols skills

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Compensation Range: Min USD $59,000.00/Yr.
Compensation Range: Max USD $63,000.00/Yr.
