Salary: The starting hourly rate for the position is $21.00 (negotiable based on experience and qualifications). This position is eligible for a hiring bonus of 3% of base pay (prorated to FTE) over the first year. If you love learning and teaching, this is the perfect role. Join us at UW-Madison's veterinary teaching hospital to be on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. This position performs technical responsibilities in support of the small animal operating rooms and sterile processing of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). Make a real difference in patients' and their owners' lives! The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 5:15pm, with a 45-minute unpaid lunch. On-call shifts are required.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Prepares, completes, and documents basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity.
- Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders, providing information and answering questions.
- Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities.
- Completes routine laboratory tests and collects specimens according to established medical orders and care plans.
- Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing.
- Directly supports the central supply and operating room services of the small animal hospital.
- Tracks supply inventory levels and places replenishment orders.
- Assists with the execution of more complex animal care procedures and affiliated activities.
- Monitors animal health status and records, notifies veterinarian when status changes, and ensures care plans are completed and recorded in the medical record.

Required Qualifications: Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently; physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks. This position is posted at Vet Tech levels 1, 2, and 3 based on qualifications and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in surgery.
Education: Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) required; High School Diploma required; Associates Degree preferred.
