Veterinary Technician (Veterinary Assistant)
Job Summary
- Monitors animals' responses to anesthetics
- Respond appropriately to anesthetic changes with appropriate knowledge of drugs and medical interventions
- Performs euthanasia to animals according to American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Guidelines, under the direction of a veterinarian and other regulations, policies, or guidelines, and monitors animals' responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted
- Executes prompt examination of animals reported with health problems
- Adheres to all appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Research Compliance directives, accreditation standards, regulations, and laws
- Maintains accurate record keeping with electronic or paper medical records
- Develops excellent veterinary technician skills
- Maintains controlled substance inventory and related logbooks
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Associate's degree in veterinary technology, biology, animal science, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
1 year of animal care experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Preferred
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) within 1 year of hire
Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT)
SKILLS
Required
Proficient written and verbal communication skills
