Ideal Candidate Statement

Ohlone College is seeking a Vice President of Student Services and Equity who is an experienced leader focused on student access, equity, and success. The candidate believes in continuous quality improvement and is committed to leading in an equitable and culturally competent learning environment. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader who will inspire students, staff, and the community to achieve their goals and realize their potential. The Vice President works closely with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and other executive team members to create a supportive, cohesive, and integrated teaching and learning environment. The Vice President will collaborate with equity committees and student services to advance a collective vision for equity, inclusion, and diversity.

Position Description

The Vice President of Student Services and Equity envisions, plans, coordinates, administers, and evaluates support programs, services, and resources for students. The Vice President provides leadership to managers, faculty, and classified staff in all areas of student services, including but not limited to: Enrollment Services, Counseling, Financial Aid, Assessment, Transfer Center, Student Accessibility Services (SAS), Extended Opportunities Programs and Services (EOPS), Student Health Center, International Programs and Services, Student activities and government, and Student conduct and discipline.

The Vice President is an active participant in college-wide governance committees and provides overall vision for Student Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the chief advisor to the President on strategic matters related to student services and keep the President informed.
  • Provide direction and leadership to all academic and classified staff in student services functions.
  • Collaborate with campus constituencies to build upon equity-based initiatives.
  • Formulate, develop, implement, and review policies and standards to assure optimum support services for students.
  • Serve as a member of the President/Superintendent's executive team and participate in achieving institutional goals.
  • Serve on Executive Committee for Equity, Inclusivity, and Campus Diversity.
  • Ensure compliance with all statistical and narrative reporting requirements.
  • Assure optimum services to students in all areas of student life.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of administrators responsible for student support services.
  • Confer with District administrators regarding management issues involving student services.
  • Work closely with academic staff to develop and enhance student services.
  • Serve as the President/Superintendent's designee for student code of conduct and discipline.
  • Represent the District to local, state, and federal governmental bodies.
  • Assure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Review and evaluate effectiveness of key personnel, programs, and services.
  • Direct the efforts of assigned committees and task forces.
  • Work collaboratively with IT Services to improve processes.
  • Work with the Vice President of Academic Affairs in developing the college catalog and schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated leadership in diversity, inclusion, and intercultural competency training programs.
  • Planning, organization, and direction of a student services department.
  • Financial aid process, procedures, and requirements.
  • Student enrollment processes.
  • Legal requirements regarding student records and discipline.
  • Relational databases and impact on student services.
  • Student development and teaching and learning theory.
  • Participatory governance process and procedures.
  • Budget preparation and control.
  • Principles and practices of administration, supervision, and training.
  • Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Operation of a computer and assigned software.

  • Plan, organize, and lead work.
  • Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports.
  • Direct the maintenance of a variety of reports, records, and files.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a Master's degree; and one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the assignment; and commitment to community college goals and equity-minded practices.

Desirable Qualifications

Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in student services, with at least three (3) years at the vice president, dean, director, or equivalent supervisory level.

Physical Characteristics

Primarily indoors/office environment.
