Vice President, Support Services
Position Summary
The Vice President of Support Services is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, and regulatory compliance of all support service functions throughout the organization. This executive leadership role oversees Facilities Management, Plant Operations, Environmental Services, Biomedical Engineering, Emergency Preparedness, Safety, and Building Security operations to ensure a safe, efficient, compliant, and patient-centered environment of care.
Job Duties & Essential Functions
Leadership and Strategic Oversight
- Provides executive leadership and operational oversight for Facilities Management, Plant Operations, Environmental Services, Biomedical Engineering, Safety, Emergency Preparedness, and Building Security.
- Develops departmental strategic plans, operational objectives, and performance improvement initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
Facilities Operations and Maintenance
- Directs the maintenance, repair, and operation of all hospital buildings, grounds, utilities, and infrastructure systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems.
Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness
- Serves as the organization's Safety Officer and chairs or leads the Physical Environment Committee.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), and local fire and building codes.
Financial and Administrative Management
- Develops and manages departmental operating and capital budgets.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborates effectively with clinical and non-clinical leadership to support operational needs and patient care initiatives.
Required experience and qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering, Facilities Management, Healthcare Administration, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive leadership experience in hospital/educational facilities management or healthcare support services.
Preferred experience and qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Experience working in a unionized healthcare environment.
