Contemporary studies consistently highlight the importance of multi-barrier treatment concepts integrated into portable or modular units, combining physical separation processes (e.g., mobile ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO)) with rapid chemical disinfection and, where necessary, adsorption or advanced oxidation steps. Elevated concentrations of natural organic matter further complicate treatment by increasing disinfectant demand and the potential formation of disinfection by-products. In flooded or industrially impacted areas, additional risks arise from the release of hazardous chemicals, requiring treatment systems to be sufficiently robust and flexible to address both acute microbial threats and diverse chemical pollution. The selected Research on emergency water treatment in the context of natural and anthropogenic disasters (Environmental Engineering) candidate at VILNIUS TECH will work on the PhD thesis under the supervision of Prof. dr. Marina Valentukeviciene. The successful applicant will have to attend scientific conferences, meetings and internships at the other universities.
Programme Structure
Curriculum includes:
- Independent research under supervision;
- Courses for PhD students (approximately 30 ECTS credits);
- Participation in research networks, including placements at other, primarily foreign, research institutions;
- Teaching or another form of knowledge dissemination, which is related to the PhD topic when possible;
- The completion of a PhD thesis.
