"Visiting Assistant Professor Biochemistry"

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Kalamazoo College, an American Chemical Society approved program, invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor with primary focus in Biochemistry. The successful candidate will additionally teach courses or labs in General or Organic chemistry depending on expertise. This position begins September 2026 and continues through August 2027 (although there are no work expectations after commencement June 2027), and may be extended for an additional year, dependent on the department’s need as well as a review of teaching. A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, or the equivalent is required (or evidence of imminent completion). Prior teaching experience is desirable, with candidates demonstrating an interest in undergraduate teaching. Candidates who have experience with programs and pedagogical approaches that are especially effective in attracting and retaining students who are typically underrepresented in the discipline are especially encouraged to apply. The College is also a part of the Posse Foundation program, which adds to the rich diversity of the campus. About 10% of Kalamazoo students major in Chemistry or Biochemistry. Graduates of the department pursue studies in the health care field, graduate-level work in the discipline, or move directly into industrial positions.

The campus is located midway between Chicago and Detroit, and the Kalamazoo area encompasses a community of 335,000, which supports several college and university campuses along with numerous civic arts and cultural associations. Thirty-five miles from Lake Michigan, the area offers many opportunities for outdoor activities.
