Position Summary:
The Department of Biology seeks a broadly trained biologist who identifies as a teacher-mentor with demonstrated excellence in innovative undergraduate teaching and mentoring. This is a visiting position, which is a full-time, 9-month contract at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor beginning August 2026. This is an academic year appointment for August 2026-May 2027. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses, be team-oriented, and foster an inclusive and equitable classroom and work environment. The position will be open until filled.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Teaching responsibilities include a 200-level introductory genetics course and a 100-level introductory cell biology course.
- Teaching load consists of a 5/5 schedule, or 15 contact hours a semester. For example, a faculty member might teach 2 lecture sections and 3 lab sections during a semester.
- Use of best teaching practices by using student-centered and evidence-based teaching practices such as active learning or undergraduate research experiences.
- Regular, predictable attendance on campus and availability to students.
- Alignment with the University's mission, vision, and strategic roadmap
- Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned
Required Qualifications:
- A commitment to serving diverse, first-generation, non-traditional, and socio-economically challenged students.
- A willingness to work individually and in groups to support success in application, matriculation, and persistence in the program.
- Ph.D. in Biology, or a closely related field.
- Preference will be given to those individuals demonstrating breadth and depth of experience and training in genetics as evidenced by their research and graduate transcripts.
Physical Requirements:
Occasional bench equipment may need to be moved from lab to lab.
