Visiting Assistant Professor, English

Job Description:
The English Department at Fairfield University invites applications for one full-time Visiting Assistant Professor to teach in the Core Writing Program and to work in areas related to our Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing in the Disciplines program, starting September 1, 2026, pending budget approval.
VAP positions typically carry a 4/4 course load in Core Writing. Successful candidates will be committed to excellence in teaching and academic service and will demonstrate thorough knowledge of the field.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Evidence of exemplary teaching of college composition courses is required.
- Understanding of contemporary best practices in the teaching of rhetoric and composition and Writing Across the Curriculum is a must.
- A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition is preferred. ABDs are also considered. To be considered, MA- and MFA-holding candidates must bring substantial experience in disciplinary approaches to teaching first-year composition.
Salary is commensurate with highest degree earned and is competitive.
