JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Biology at Pomona College invites applications for two one-year Visiting Assistant Professor positions in organismal biology and/or ecological sciences beginning Fall 2026. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas: ecology, animal physiology, plant physiology, or animal behavior. Successful candidates will offer an upper-level elective course with laboratory in their above area of expertise during one semester, and in the other semester, teach in one of our introductory courses with laboratory (Introductory Genetics or Introductory Cell Biology).

The department can provide support for faculty members' pursuit of independent research, especially if that research is in collaboration with undergraduate students at Pomona College and the Claremont Colleges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability or potential to teach and mentor exceptional students of diverse backgrounds—utilizing pedagogical practices that are rigorous, inclusive, and which promote academic equity.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education--Required: Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field by July 1, 2026 required

Teaching Experience--Preferred: Demonstrable experience teaching lecture courses with laboratory; previous teaching experience with a strong interest in teaching undergraduates, and a desire to mentor underrepresented populations
