Position Summary
Bowdoin College's Department of Earth and Oceanographic Science invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible visiting assistant professor appointment in surface processes for the 2026-2027 academic year. The appointment is for one year and begins July 1, 2026. A PhD is expected by the date of appointment. Bowdoin is particularly interested in candidates dedicated to inclusive undergraduate teaching. We seek candidates with expertise in earth surface processes to teach intermediate-to-advanced courses and are especially interested in candidates specializing in geomorphology, hydrology, sedimentology, or glaciology. We invite applicants to highlight experience with spatial analysis tools, such as GIS, or other quantitative approaches, which could include modeling or AI. The teaching load is three courses per year, two of which include a weekly three-hour, hands-on lab session.
