teach courses in areas that could include: health, migration/borders, global supply chains, extraction, the commons, political ecology, displacement, empire, critical humanitarianism, among others. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, draw on and contribute to critical perspectives and pedagogies of the Global South, Indigenous, migrant, and other underrepresented communities. We welcome candidates whose scholarship centers alternative wisdom traditions, epistemologies, futurities, and often overlooked traditions of resistance.
We seek highly qualified candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching who can make new and critical contributions to our concentrations within the Global Studies major in International Economic Policy (IEP), International Relations and Foreign Policy (IR/FP), and Global Health, among others. The position carries a teaching load of four classes per year, including GS101: Introduction to Global Studies as well as GS electives in the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate will be a creative and engaged teacher, able to teach courses that emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, intersectional engagement, and anti- and/or de-colonial perspectives in ways that will complement the department’s current strengths and broaden our offerings.
Global Studies is one of the largest interdisciplinary majors at Colby. As one of the oldest Global Studies departments at a liberal arts college, the department has a history of drawing on faculty and classes from across the college. Building on this foundation, Global Studies at Colby is in the midst of a multi-year process of aligning our curriculum with critical and transdisciplinary approaches to global studies. We are particularly excited to welcome a new colleague who might engage in, and contribute to, that process with us. Depending on training and interests, they could also participate in relevant centers and institutions on campus, including social science and humanities departments, interdisciplinary departments such as Latin American Studies, East Asian Languages and Cultures, Environmental Studies, Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS), STS, and initiatives such as the Oak Institute for Human Rights, the Center for the Arts and Humanities, and the Critical Indigenous Studies Initiative (CISI). Given our department’s commitment to transdisciplinarity, the successful candidate will either be trained in a transdisciplinary field or trained in a discipline with demonstrated transdisciplinary teaching and research.
