Visiting Assistant Professor of Religion
Centre College invites applications for a two-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Religion, beginning in August 2026. Candidates must be ABD or have a Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a related field by the time of appointment. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who are committed to undergraduate education, will contribute to the depth of our faculty, support our flourishing student body, and utilize a variety of pedagogical practices. The successful candidate will teach 18 credits (6 courses) per academic year, offering classes in the Religion Program as well as our general education curriculum (including first-year seminars). The area of specialization is open; however, some preference may be given to those scholars who can teach Introduction to Islam. We seek scholars who can offer courses in a broad range of fields and regions, complementing our current curriculum. Some possible areas of expertise include: African and/or African Diaspora Religions; Indigenous traditions; Islam in America or East Asia; Psychology of Religion; Ethics and/or Philosophy of Religion; Religion and Science, Religion, Healing, and Medicine; and Religion and the Environment. We also welcome candidates who are interested in teaching study away courses (domestic or abroad) during our intensive January term.
