About the School of History and Sociology (HSOC)

HSOC is an interdisciplinary unit offering BS, MS, and PhD degrees in History, Technology, and Society, and in the History and Sociology of Technology and Science. The School is known for its focus on social justice, intersectionality (race, gender, class), and science and technology studies (STS).

Position Summary

HSOC is hiring a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor to begin in August 2025. The position focuses on Sociology, Gender, and Technology, with a teaching load of 2 courses per semester. The position may include the opportunity to teach online courses in Spring 2026 (optional).

Key Responsibilities

• Teach introductory sociology courses and courses on gender and science/technology
• Hold office hours, manage course communications, provide feedback, and grade assessments
• Possibly teach online in Spring 2026 (optional)

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Sociology, STS, Gender Studies, or a related field by the start date

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching introductory sociology and gender/science/technology courses
• Demonstrated teaching excellence
• Ability to teach both in-person and remotely
• Capacity to engage diverse student bodies
• Willingness to contribute to departmental and institutional service
