The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Ripon College is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology for the 2026-2027 academic year. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in social inequalities (race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, etc.), sociology of media and/or visual sociology, and qualitative methodologies.
Applicants with a Ph.D. or ABD status in Sociology will be prioritized, though applicants with terminal degrees in related fields may be considered. The teaching load will be three courses per semester over two semesters, for six courses total. Applicants will be expected to teach both lower-division and upper-division undergraduate courses in their areas of expertise, and may also be requested to teach an introductory course in sociology. Successful applicants will also show evidence of their ability to teach courses that may be cross-listed with academic programs closely related to their areas of expertise.
The faculty at Ripon College are a talented and dynamic group of teacher-scholars who work closely with a diverse student population on capstone and undergraduate research projects and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with one another on scholarship and creative activity. Qualifications and Application
Required Qualifications:
- PhD or ABD status in Sociology or related fields
- Ability to teach multiple courses related to areas of expertise, as well as an introductory course
- Strong commitment to student-centered pedagogy, with evidence of effective teaching
- An active research agenda
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to teach courses that may serve other academic departments and programs, such as those listed above
- Experience working collaboratively with colleagues in a small collegiate environment
