Visiting Assistant Professor of Studio Art
POSITION SUMMARY
The Department of Studio Art at Willamette University, Salem campus, invites applications for a one-year, full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor position in Sculpture in the Expanded Field. The appointment runs from August 2026 through May 2027.
The successful candidate will teach sculpture courses across all levels of our B.A. program, where we emphasize concept-driven artmaking and skill building in all of our classes. They will also oversee the Sculpture Studio, including facilities for woodworking, metalworking, and moldmaking.
Ideal applicants will have an active studio practice and teaching experience in sculpture and related areas such as installation art, time-based media, and/or performance art.
Planned courses for Fall 2026 include Sculpture I and two special topics courses: "Sculpture and the Body" and "EcoArt."
The Studio Art Department at Willamette University supports a dynamic, interdisciplinary artmaking community within a liberal arts environment. Our classes are supported by an active practice of showing student artwork and a vibrant visiting artist's program.
Typical Work Schedule: Classes typically meet two to three times per week, for a total of 180 minutes a week. This is an in-person teaching position.
Salary: $48,000 - $54,000 depending on education and experience
