Visiting Assistant Professor of the Practice of Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Position Purpose
New England College in Henniker, NH seeks to fill two Visiting Assistant Professors of the Practice of Clinical Mental Health Counseling positions to start in 2026. These positions are focused mostly on graduate teaching, but also include service and professional engagement/scholarship in the content area of clinical mental health counseling and mental health services. While the didactic coursework for these programs is online, these are on-campus positions to facilitate regional site visits and collaboration with other on-campus faculty. Faculty in these positions will have 10-month contracts.

Essential Duties Summary

  • Teach graduate-level courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with emphasis on counselor education, professional identity development, and clinical skill acquisition. Provide high-quality instruction across the curriculum, including but not limited to courses in counseling theories, techniques, ethics, multicultural counseling, and clinical supervision.
  • Advise and mentor students throughout their field experiences by providing individual and group supervision consistent with best practices and standards.
  • Support student professional growth by monitoring clinical performance, evaluating competencies, and fostering reflective practice through collaborative curriculum development, scheduling, and program assessment.
  • Serve as an academic advisor and professional mentor to graduate students, assisting with course planning, licensure preparation, career development, and professional identity formation.
  • Provide leadership in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Human Services program.
  • Participate in professional organizations and engage in professional or scholarly activities to remain current in the field, particularly in clinical mental health counseling and counselor education or related field.
  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with clinical training sites, community agencies, and professional organizations to strengthen practicum and internship opportunities for students, and to contribute to the visibility and impact of the program through visiting clinical sites to assess viability and monitor ongoing clinical experiences.
  • Assist with program recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Engage in and promote the College's emphasis on experiential learning.
  • Provide service to the department, division, and the College.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling;
  • Will have 5+ years post-licensure as an LCMHC, with a minimum of 30 hours of clinical supervision training;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in a clinical setting;
  • Documented effectiveness in college teaching using engaged learning in online delivery;
  • Experience in the field or in an educational institution in the areas of clinical mental health counseling, or related discipline;
  • Understands the needs of students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Counselor Education and Supervision, Educational Leadership, PsyD, PhD., or related field;
  • Supervision credential/training (e.g., Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) or similar ) with a minimum of 30 hours of approved Clinical Supervision training;
  • Familiarity with scholarly activity (e.g., publications, presentations, grants);
  • Active membership in professional counseling organizations (e.g., ACA, ACES, AMHCA, NHMHCA, APA);
  • Experience developing and maintaining practicum/internship partnerships with community agencies;
  • Familiarity with online/hybrid instruction and innovative teaching practices;
  • Experienced in independent counseling practice in community mental health, group practice, or private practice.
