Description
The School of Arts and Humanities at the University of New England invites applications for a full-time, one year Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in a humanities discipline for AY 2026-2027. The successful candidate will join an energetic, dedicated, and highly productive school and will teach introductory and advanced courses in their field, as well as first-year writing. The start date for this position is August 10, 2026.

Responsibilities
The school seeks candidates to teach courses in the humanities, as well as first-year writing. These courses will largely serve the general education curriculum for students in the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, and College of Health Professions. We are especially interested in candidates with training and/or experience teaching first-year writing as an introduction to academic discourse. The ability to teach one or more humanities courses that contribute to the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies minor is a strong plus. The expected teaching load is 12 credits (4 courses) per semester, including 2 sections of first-year writing. The successful candidate will also be invited to participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment and service to the school, college, and university.
Qualifications
A master's degree in a humanities discipline (Art History, History, Philosophy, Religion, or a closely related field) is required. Undergraduate teaching experience is also required. Candidates with a Ph.D., and demonstrated record of scholarly or creative work are preferred.
