Visiting Filmmaker
Job Details
Description
Flagler College invites applications for a Visiting Filmmaker faculty position starting in the 2026-2027 academic year.
This visiting position will last for three years and will include a teaching load of three courses per semester. Candidates are expected to come with a two-to-three-year narrative film project to be written, shot and edited by students in our Cinematic Arts program. Much of the work on the film can be completed during courses, but candidates may also be asked to teach courses in video and film production and/or film history and theory, depending on the candidate’s specialty.
Our popular Cinematic Arts program is currently housed in the Department of Communication, however, it is an interdisciplinary major, so students and faculty can collaborate with faculty and students in Performing Arts, Creative Writing, and Visual Arts. The Department of Communication also includes majors in Digital Media Production and Journalism, Media Studies, and Strategic Communication, as well as an interdisciplinary minor in Film Studies.
Qualifications
- Applicant must hold an M.A., M.F.A. or Ph.D. (including ABD) in Film, Video/Film Production, or a related field such as Digital Media Production, Communication Arts, or Fine Arts
- Professional experience as a producer/director in the television or film industry.
- Evidence of festival screenings or industry recognition. Strong college teaching record is preferred.
- Expertise in DaVinci Resolve. Some experience in Adobe Premier.
Desirable Qualities:
- Professional work that shows commitment to issues of diversity.
- Experience with Blackmagic Cinema Cameras
- The ability to teach underwater photography/videography. (Candidates with this skill are not required to teach in summer but will have additional paid opportunities during summer terms to teach underwater photography in Bermuda.)
- Knowledge of scripting/screenplay writing and media distribution and/or prior experience teaching film history/theory is a plus.
Application Instructions
A complete application will include a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, links to films or sample portfolio of work (if not linked in CV), unofficial copies of transcripts, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and three confidential letters of reference.
All application materials should be submitted through Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/177067.
