Department Information
The program in Geosciences is actively engaged in undergraduate education, service, and regional, national, and international research. The individual hired will contribute to the undergraduate teaching mission of SEES. The school offers baccalaureate degrees in Geosciences (with concentrations in Geography, Geology, & Environmental Science) and Sustainability Science, as well as Master of Science and PhD degrees in Environmental Science.
Job Summary
Reporting to the department chair, the Visiting Instructor of Geology may teach Physical Geology Lab, Environmental Geology Lab, and/or Historical Geology Lecture and Lab. Visiting faculty normally teach fifteen credit hours per semester, hold regular office hours, and actively participate in departmental meetings. Collegiality is essential. This position begins on January 1, 2026. All visiting positions are non-tenure track appointments. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Earned master's degree (or higher) in Geology, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Geology by January 1, 2026.
- Demonstrated ability to teach Physical Geology Labs and/or Environmental Geology Labs.
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
- Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing and teaching Physical Geology and/or Environmental Geology Lectures.
- Experience preparing and teaching Historical Geology Lectures and/or Labs.
- Experience teaching online courses.
