Visiting Instructor in Biology and Pre-Health
The Director of Health Programs and the Department of Biology at Lake Forest College invites applications for a three-year visiting instructor position with a demonstrated ability to teach HLTH/HPPC 208 (Human Anatomy + Lab), HLTH/HPPC 209 (Human Physiology + Lab), and a biology elective. This is a full-time term appointment (renewable for up to three years), which includes Pre-Health student advising, committee service, and program support (mentored and supported by the Director of Health Programs), but carries no research expectations and is not eligible for tenure review. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts setting. Candidates will complete 6 teaching credits per year (i.e., 3 each semester).
- The typical fall semester load is: one HLTH/HPPC 209 lecture (for 1 teaching credit), two half-labs for HLTH/HPPC 209 (.50 credits each for 1 total teaching credit; half-labs are just under 2 hours in length), and one additional Biology course (for 1 teaching credit).
- The typical spring semester load is: one HLTH/HPPC 208 lecture (for 1 teaching credit) and two full-labs for HLTH/HPPC 208 (1.0 credits each for a total of 2 teaching credits; full-labs are just under 4 hours each).
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant biological or health-related discipline required, doctoral degree preferred.
- Ability to teach the anatomy and physiology courses indicated above.
- Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and student success.
- Experience with or interest in advising pre-health students (e.g., pre-medicine, pre-nursing, pre-PA) and supporting pre-health programs.
