Visiting Instructor in Foundations
Job Summary
The Department of Art and Art History at the University of Colorado-Boulder seeks a full-time one-year appointment as a Visiting Instructor in Foundations. The candidate will primarily teach undergraduates in the Foundations program; supervise lecturers and graduate student teaching assistants in Foundations; coordinate space and materials needs with lab technicians. We encourage candidates to apply whose creative work engages the expanded field of contemporary art.
The Foundations Program provides instruction in 2-D and 3-D design, and Digital art making with an emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches to art practices. Students are encouraged to explore a wide range of techniques, materials, and ideas, both traditional and experimental. The successful candidate will work closely with the Foundations Director/Area coordinator and other Faculty to help develop and run a cohesive and integrated first-year experience.
An active professional creative practice and exhibition record is desirable, and maintaining a high level of professional standing in their field will be a requirement of the position.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Faculty member will teach sections of ARTS 1010 and ARTS 1020 as assigned during AY 2026-2027; help oversee the Foundations program by working with the studio technician to coordinate the ordering of materials; work with lecturers and instructors when necessary to provide guidance on curriculum and teaching questions; work with woodshop and metal shop technicians to coordinate schedules for class projects; oversee, with support of technician, Foundations classrooms/workshops; and attend Area Coordinator meetings and represent Foundations in Area meetings.
What You Should Know
The teaching load is 4 classes in the fall semester and 4 classes in the spring semester with additional service expected.

An MFA degree, or equivalent professional experience, at the time of hire.
What You Will Need
Familiarity with a range of art-related techniques and processes; knowledge of contemporary art.
What We Would Like You to Have
At least two years teaching experience at the college level, preferably with some background instructing Foundations (preferably beyond graduate school teaching) and be versed in teaching a range of materials and processes to help students work independently and collaboratively to develop ideas into meaningful, well-executed works.
