About the School of Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Institute of Technology
The School of Literature, Media, and Communication is a multi-disciplinary program. It offers degrees in Literature, Media, and Communication, and in Computational Media, M.S. degrees in Digital Media, Human-Computer Interaction, and Global Media and Cultures, as well as a Ph.D. in Digital Media. Film and media courses are taught across these and adjoining programs and attract a wide range of students.
The Bachelor of Science in Computational Media is a collaborative effort by the College of Computing, the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC), and the School of Music. The program offers a thorough education in all aspects of the computer as a medium: the technical, the historical-critical, and the applied. Program graduates will have both significant hands-on and theoretical knowledge of computing and an understanding of visual design and the history of media. Graduates will be uniquely positioned to plan, create, and critique new digital media forms for entertainment, education, and business communication. Job summary
The School of Literature, Media, and Communication (https://www.lmc.gatech.edu) of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, Georgia) seeks to fill a non-tenure track Visiting Lecturer position in Digital Design and Production to teach core courses in our undergraduate BS in Computational Media degree program. We seek an enthusiastic teacher who enjoys working with undergraduates and preparing them for careers in digital media fields, particularly UI/UX as well as digital arts and expression.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the following subject areas: 2D and 3D visual design, information design, interaction design, web design. (LMC 27xx and LMC 37xx in our curriculum)
- Organize and coordinate content and pedagogical strategies across the sequence of these courses within the undergraduate curriculum.
- Mentor Ph.D. students, who also teach sections of these courses, with possibilities for additional compensated duties related to TA support in the summer term(s)
- Participate in administrative meetings relevant to the Computational Media program.
Required qualifications
Graduate degree in appropriate field is required.
Preferred qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching and/or working in one or more of the following areas: 2D and 3D visual design with an emphasis on digital media, information design, and interaction design. Interest or background in the role that generative AI can play in these areas is desired. The candidate will play a mentoring role for Ph.D. students who are also teaching courses in the curriculum. In these roles, the ability to teach and mentor a distinct student body is essential. Teaching load is 3 courses in the fall and spring semesters. Master’s degree in appropriate field required; terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) preferred.
