Visiting Media Scholar – The Patricia Doherty Yoder Institute for Ethics and Integrity in Journalism and Media
The Patricia Doherty Yoder Institute for Ethics and Integrity in Journalism and Media at Duquesne University is seeking applications for its Visiting Media Scholar for spring semester 2026. Founded by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Duquesne University emphasizes excellence in scholarship and ethical communication in fields like journalism, broadcast news, sports, advertising, public relations, and media design.
Technological innovations and ethical dilemmas in media have impacted public trust. The Institute, since 2021, works to restore trust through discussions, research, and collaborations to expand local news coverage.
The scholar will be appointed for spring 2026 with a stipend of $15,000 (depending on experience), relocation expenses, and participation in events. In-person residency is preferred, but remote teaching is possible with funding for travel and lodging for at least three in-person lectures. The scholar receives on-campus office space, an email account, and library privileges.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching one 3-credit undergraduate/graduate seminar on a topic of the scholar’s choice, with priority for generative AI in newsrooms, sports journalism, public relations, or digital media design.
- Offering one public lecture.
- Holding weekly office hours for students and faculty.
