The University of Cincinnati Department of Neurosurgery is driving the direction of how our field is practiced. As an internationally recognized program, University of Cincinnati Department of Neurosurgery is where patients and other clinicians turn to for care of complex neurosurgical issues. The University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery, is recruiting for a full-time (100% FTE) Visiting Scholar. This Visiting Scholar program utilizes the facilities of the Goodyear Microsurgery Laboratory at the College of Medicine, University of Cincinnati. The program will consist of a research and education component, along with a scholarly component.

This position supports the University’s mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.

Essential Functions

  • Independent cadaveric dissection for the purpose of education and for development of new neurosurgical techniques.
  • Work with their peers, neurosurgery residents and students in appropriately designed anatomical projects in cadaveric specimens, respecting the prevailing norms and regulations at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager in the logistic organization of cadaveric and animal courses in the laboratory, ensuring compliance with laboratory regulations and duties regarding the proper use, care, and disposal of materials.
  • Conduct anatomical research study and discovery, application of knowledge, integration of concepts, teaching and learning of peer visiting scholars, neurosurgery residents and medical students.
  • Collaborate with affiliate disciplines in the completion of multidisciplinary projects.
  • Participate and assist with the organization of regular dedicated teaching conferences with participation of the associated faculty, residents, and medical students.
  • Complete at least two publications during the program.

Required Education

Appropriate academic degree related to department specifications and prior academic experience.

Required Experience

Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research evidenced by peer reviews and publications. Candidates for a tenured appointment should demonstrate intellectual leadership and impact on the field and potential significant contributions to the department, University of Cincinnati, and wider scholarly community.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Good oral and written command of the English language.
