W 1 Junior professorship in empirical quantitative science research

The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in the field of empirical quantitative science research. The position will be based in the School of Human and Social Sciences and the DFG Research Training Group (GRK 2696) “Transformations of Science and Technology”.
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- The candidate has proven expertise in empirical-quantitative and internationally oriented historical-sociological scientific research.
- The candidate combines the two fields of sociology and history at the Interdisciplinary Center for Science and Technology Studies (IZWT), in particular in the DFG Research Training Group GRK 2696 “Transformations of Science and Technology”.
- The candidate teaches courses equally in degree programs of sociology and history and contributes to the degree programme and co-supervision of doctoral students (GRK 2696).
- The candidate is expected to be able to connect with the research activities of other professorships at the IZWT and GRK 2696.
- Relevant research activities and peer-reviewed publications as well as an international orientation (e.g., stays abroad, international collaborations, lectures, publications) are also expected.
- Within the University of Wuppertal, cooperation in the field of empirical-quantitative methods (e.g., computational social science, digital humanities, empirical economic and social research) with relevant professorships of School 1 / School 2, School 3, and School 9 is desirable.
- Participation in University of Wuppertal’s activity area 2: Next Generation Learning, Teaching, Knowledge Transfer and the University of Wuppertal’s activity area 3: Shaping Sustainable Societal Transformation is desirable.
- You are expected to achieve adequate German language skills within the first two years of service, within the first year at level B2 and at level C1 within a total of two years at the latest.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed degree (master or equivalent from university or university of applied sciences) with a proven empirical-quantitative focus.
- Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate, with a topic relevant to the advertised position.
- Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure.
You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by publications, relevant teaching experience, international orientation (e.g., international collaborations, activities in national and international bodies), and project experience. Please enclose relevant certificates and supporting documents with your application.
Starting as junior professors, they are appointed normally as civil servants for a period of three years. These positions are extended for three more years if the junior professors have successfully passed an interim evaluation.
