The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf will appoint a W2-professor for Digital Text Cultures effective 1 April 2027. We are seeking a scholar who, on the basis of a broad and solid qualification in Modern German Literary Studies, represents the field of text cultures of the digital space both in disciplinary and interdisciplinary (collaborative) research and in the teaching responsibilities of the Institute of German Studies.
Applicants must hold a doctorate in modern German literature (Neue Deutsche Literatur, NDL) or in comparative literature with a focus on NDL. In addition, they must have established a research focus on digital text cultures in the sense of the Digital Humanities and the Humanities of the Digital, as demonstrated by relevant publications and by a clearly identifiable innovation potential. Experience in interdisciplinary research activities and in university teaching is required, as is a willingness to engage in inter- and transdisciplinary (collaborative) research and a documented record of successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding. The candidate should also be able to demonstrate solid teaching experience, for example through teaching evaluations, teaching awards or participation in higher-education didactic training, and should show particular commitment to the study programmes offered by the Institute of German Studies.
A second research focus is required, preferably in text-based narratology; the willingness to participate in academic self-governance and to apply data-scientific methods is regarded as advantageous. Candidates are expected to be willing to contribute to the development of the Centre for Digital Humanities.
Applicants will be hired in accordance with the general prerequisites pertaining to service law of section 36 of the North Rhine-Westphalia University Act (Hochschulgesetz NRW) which require an aptitude for teaching, exceptional competence in research, and additional scientific achievements.
