W2 Professorship in Educational Psychology with a focus on Science Communication and Science Education

W2 Professorship in Educational Psychology with a focus on Science Communication and Science Education

The appointment is planned for 01.10.2026.

Your responsibilities

We are looking for a person who specialises in educational psychology with a focus on science communication and science education. Research should focus on the understanding of science, science communication and, in the future, on scientific literacy/teaching science. Links to the communication of scientific findings, e.g. in teacher training or in the area of prevention/health, are desirable.

The professorship is part of the "zukunft-niedersachsen" science funding programme and is intended to promote the further development of the region's scientific ecosystem through the TU (Ecoversity – Collaborative space for change). In addition to the establishment of new, efficient structures in the areas of research, teaching, transfer and administration, the focus will be on two promising research topics, "BrightBrain" and "ReSpace!", which result from synergies between the established core research areas "Engineering for Health"; "Metrology"; "City of the Future" and "Mobility". Specifically, the professorship will establish a Science Communication Hub, which will provide fundamental support for the BrightBrain and ReSpace! topic areas in evidence-based science communication, in addition to its own excellent research. In addition, the professorship will establish a focus on "science education" and thus systematically position itself in the professionalisation of teachers.

The successful candidate (f/m/d) is expected to be committed to the university’s strategic goals and to actively shape its holistic development (https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/hochschulentwicklung). In addition to the classic service areas of a university (research, teaching and studies, transfer, governance and administration), this applies in particular to digitalisation, internationalisation, equality and diversity, as well as knowledge exchange.

Our expectations

  • Internationally visible psychological research on science communication topics, including science education, is desirable
  • Proven experience in the acquisition of third‑party funding
  • Experience in psychological teaching and teacher training
  • Willingness to teach in English at university level
  • Willingness to collaborate across disciplines (e.g. with the Institute of Communication Science)
  • Willingness to collaborate and expand internationally
  • Willingness to cooperate within Ecoversity
  • Participation in academic self-administration and scientific organisation
  • Promotion of employees in the qualification phases

International research and teaching experience, excellent command of the English language, as well as the ability and willingness to teach courses in English, are prerequisites.
Individual career decisions and career breaks due to parental/family care leave affecting research output will be taken into account by the appointment committee.

Requirements, § 25 NHG

  • A degree in a relevant field
  • Pedagogical aptitude
  • Special qualification for in-depth independent scientific work, as a rule proven by an above-average doctorate
  • Additional academic achievements, usually within the framework of a junior professorship, a postdoctoral degree (Habilitation) or achievements equivalent to a Habilitation
