W3-Professorship (m/f/d) for Medium-Voltage Engineering and Insulation Systems

The professorship's teaching focuses on high- and medium-voltage technology for electrical power supply systems and the fundamentals of electrical engineering.
For research and integration into the research profile of the faculty, a focus on the effect of high field strengths in materials and structures is desired. Experience and future activities in research and development in several of the following areas are expected:
- Ageing and failure mechanisms of novel materials and components with a focus on partial discharge resistance
- Effect of high voltage slew rates on insulation systems in modern electrical power systems
- Medium-voltage DC systems and switching devices
- Application of insulation and functional systems with the use of smart materials in special functions (e.g., mechanical and electronic switches or nanotechnology)
- Monitoring and diagnostics of components and systems in medium- and high-voltage installations.
The position explicitly offers the option of close co-operation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology (IEE). There is also the possibility of co-operation with the Institute of Nanostructure Technology and Analytics (INA).
The envisaged broad focus of the professorship, combined with the appropriate personnel, equipment, and financial resources, requires a leader who can fulfill the requirements of teaching, research, and science management.
Proven outstanding scientific achievements after the doctorate and experience acquiring third-party funds, e.g., from the DFG, the EU, and the BMBF, are expected. Experience in project co-operation with industry is expected. Pedagogical aptitude is required. Evidence of independent teaching is desirable. Responsibilities include teaching in German and English, and participation in academic self-administration.

Prerequisites:
The recruitment and performance requirements according to §§ 67, 68 of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Hesse (HessHG). In particular, the qualification is proven by a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent additional academic achievements.
