Waste & Recycling Technician Class 2 - Cabrini Campus
Under moderate supervision, assists in loading large waste collection vehicle in the collection and disposal of University waste, or operation of non-CDL vehicles such as box truck or stake body to collect various waste or surplus materials throughout campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Hooks up and/or operates compactors, waste receptacles, and dumpsters throughout campus.
- Works with supervisor and mechanics to maintain scheduled preventative maintenance on vehicle or other equipment.
- Operates vehicle in accordance with all local, municipal, state and federal laws.
- Performs pre and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment and documents inspections using standard Vehic Inspection Report.
- Assists the Waste Collection Truck Driver in performing scheduled preventative maintenance on compactors a truck. Immediately reports any unsafe situations to supervisor or Public Safety.
- Attends and participates in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings required by the University Works closely with supervisor to improve route efficiency and identify best practices.
- Follows route assignments as directed and completes any required documentation. Immediately notifies supervisor of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.
- Notifies supervisor of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed lots, street, alleyways, or potential safety hazards. Identifies and reports all containers in need of repair or replacement.
- Performs any necessary housekeeping in and around trash enclosures, truck, or other equipment. Carries out all job duties as defined under other job classifications normally assigned to the Grounds Division, such as Gardener. Performs other duties assigned with
Minimum Qualifications
- HS diploma or equivalent and documentation indicating current successful completion of formal training classes or programs in sustainable materials management, defensive driving for commercial vehicles, or be able to exhibit acceptable life experiences in waste collections and transportation.
- Must be at least 21 yrs of age.
- Must have and maintain a valid State driver's license.
- Must be able to meet requirements for University insurance.
- Must possess or successfully obtain and maintain DOT medical certification.
- Must possess or successfully obtain and maintain CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement andmeet all requirements of University driving policies within 6 months of accepting position. Failure to qualify for operation of a Commercial motor vehicle in these categories will result in a demotion down to an appropriate qualifying level not requiring operation of a University vehicle.
- Ability to follow both verbal and written directions.
- Ability to interact with customers (students, faculty, administration) in a positive and helpful manner.
- Must be able to climb ladders, to bend and reach, and to lift (up to 60 lbs.).
- At least three years of successful work experience in a laboring Must have a minimum of two years of service in the trade at Villanova University(upon discretion of Facilities Management.)
