Job Description
Oakton College is seeking a dedicated instructor for a skills course in Welding. This accelerated course introduces students to welding fundamentals, safety practices, and basic fabrication techniques. Students gain hands-on experience with SMAW and GMAW processes, along with oxy-fuel cutting. Emphasis is placed on safety, weld quality, and job readiness aligned with AWS standards.
Essential Functions of the Position
- Refine existing curriculum as applicable
- Preparation of additional instructional materials (as appropriate)
- Delivery of instruction, including being prepared for and conducting courses and, laboratories at scheduled times
- Safety Management: Enforce rigorous safety regulations, ensure the proper use of protective gear, and maintain a hazard-free lab environment.
- Assess and reflect on student progress
- Classroom management
- Collaboration with Oakton staff and host site
- Compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures including but not limited to submission of final grades
Requirements
- Active welding credential
- Active safety credential
- 3-5+ years of professional experience in structural fabrication, pipe welding, or related fields
- 2+ years of Instructional experience
- Working knowledge of current AWS standards
- Experience with on line learning platforms
- Excellent communication, patience, and the ability and desire to effectively demonstrate manual skills to diverse student populations
