Job Duties: The Wellness Educator develops, coordinates, and implements programs designed to equip students with the information, skills, and encouragement needed to make responsible decisions about their health and well-being. This role also promotes a healthy culture and environment on campus and in the surrounding community. The position has specific responsibility for suicide prevention initiatives and education and prevention programming related to alcohol and other drug use (AODA). The Wellness Educator works collaboratively with UHCS staff, students, and the broader campus community to support departmental functioning and strategic health promotion initiatives. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement wellness education programs and initiatives, including presentations to student groups and classes, campus-wide events, and outreach through print and digital media.
- Develop and lead suicide prevention initiatives, including training, awareness campaigns, and campus-wide engagement.
- Coordinate and implement alcohol and other drug education and prevention programming, incorporating harm reduction strategies and peer-led efforts.
- Assist with administering health-related surveys such as the National College Health Assessment and other relevant assessments; use data to inform ongoing program development, accreditation, and compliance.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and reach of wellness programming using assessment data, participation metrics, and student feedback.
- Collaborate with campus and community partners to foster a healthy campus culture and support wellness-related initiatives.
- Research, develop, and pilot new wellness programs and materials based on student needs and current public health trends.
- Manage the UHCS wellness website to ensure content is current, engaging, and aligned with institutional goals.
- Oversee and support a team of student Peer Educators, including training, supervision, and program development.
- Manage the wellness programming budget in collaboration with departmental leadership.
- Promote wellness campaigns and programs through social media, print materials, and campus partnerships.
- Participate in campus committees related to student success, health, and well-being.
- Demonstrate willingness and ability to follow applicable safety rules and participate in relevant training and drills.
- Engage respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Counseling Services Director at UHCS.
Supervision Exercised: Supervises student Peer Educators and may oversee campus and community volunteers, trainees, graduate assistants, and others involved in wellness programming.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Develops strategic plan and objectives by reviewing and analyzing trends and recommendations which will achieve wellness goals.
- Implements strategic plan and manages program to achieve goals and objectives.
- Develops strategic wellness initiatives to promote employee or community involvement.
- Identifies short-term and long-term goals for wellness programs to align with strategic objectives.
- Provides administrative and programmatic health and wellness services.
Department: University Health and Counseling
Compensation: Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary of $55,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related mental health or health sciences field.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with health/wellness programming design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Proficiency with graphic design tools and/or website design.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to interact respectfully and work collaboratively with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including students, parents, staff, and faculty.
- Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.
