Job Summary/Basic Function
The Writer/Editor for Internal Communications position assists in the production of numerous internal and external communications including email communications, magazines, newsletters, websites, press releases, and more to share Wright State's good news stories with the campus community and beyond. This role defines communication needs, develops detailed communication plans, and leads execution of those plans.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years related experience in communications.
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, PR, Communications or equivalent is required.
- Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal to effectively address all levels within the university.
- Effective organizational, planning and time management skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrates knowledge in multimedia programming formats (video, visual storytelling).
- Ability to interact on a face-to-face basis with internal and external constituents and coordinate communications for various activities and events.
- Ability to manage deadlines and quickly changing priorities to deliver results as part of a fast-paced dynamic team.
Preferred Qualifications
- The Writer/Editor Internal Communications will work closely with university leadership, faculty, staff, K-12 education leaders, community stakeholders, and external partners. The position requires strong interpersonal skills to navigate diverse settings and facilitate productive collaborations.

Essential Functions and percent of time
- Effectively integrates and executes messaging and cadence of communications for multiple strategies. (50%)
Copy writing, editing and proofing content, and preparing content for newsroom and magazine publication. - Manages internal communications for Wright State. (25%)
Uses email management and digital asset management platforms. - Supports project coordination and daily workflows by engaging with cross-functional teams. (15%)
- Other duties as assigned. (10%)
Working Conditions
Work Environment: The Writer/Editor Internal Communications primarily works in an office setting at Wright State University but will frequently engage in off-site meetings and events within the Dayton region and beyond. This includes visits to local schools, community organizations, regional education forums, and statewide meetings. The role requires considerable travel within the service area to build and maintain partnerships.
Schedule and Hours: The position typically follows a standard university business schedule (Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) but may require occasional evening or weekend hours to attend community events, meetings, or outreach activities.
