Job Description

The Writing Center at SUNY Old Westbury invites applications for the part-time position of Writing Center Instructor.

Responsibilities include:

  • provide face-to-face and online writing instruction to a diverse student population
  • teach writing workshops as needed
  • provide support and mentoring for student staff members
  • assist with and/or attend all in-house training and professional development meetings
  • staff the front desk, greet visitors to the Center, and assist students with scheduling appointments
  • pursue guided or independent professional development during downtime on shift

This part-time position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, and the ability to add additional hours during the final month of each semester.  This is a ten (10) month, college-year obligation position and has the potential for annual renewal.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Composition and Rhetoric, English, Education, or a field corresponding to a major at Old Westbury and have experience teaching writing in the classroom or Writing Center.  Student teaching counts as teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Composition and Rhetoric, English, Education, or a field corresponding to a major at Old Westbury.  Candidates should also have an interest in supporting non-traditional and/or first-generation college students.
