The English Department at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) invites applications for one or more full-time lecturer positions in our Writing Program, which primarily serves the CWRU writing-intensive general education curriculum (see: https://case.edu/writing/academics). We seek colleagues who champion an inclusive university and who are excited to join our energetic and collegial program. Our first-year and advanced writing seminars cover a range of topics and emphasize intellectual inquiry, critical thinking, and academic writing.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties: Design and lead first-year Academic Inquiry Seminars; Provide consultations for the campus community via the Writing Resource Center; Participate in professional development activities related to the teaching of writing

Additional Opportunities:Designing and teaching communication-intensive seminars, creative writing workshops, professional/technical/scientific communication courses, and/or other undergraduate courses; Pedagogical leadership and assessment activities are also available and are compensated

Appointment Terms:Teach the equivalent of 6 courses per academic year, which may include a mix of classroom teaching, providing instructional work through the Writing Resource Center, and other activities; Initial appointment is for one academic year, beginning August 2026; This position is eligible for annual reappointment

About Case Western Reserve and the Writing Program:CWRU is an independent research university located in Cleveland's University Circle, a square mile urban district of cultural, medical, educational, religious, and social service institutions. We enroll over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate/professional students in both liberal arts and professional/technical disciplines. The Writing Program serves as a resource for all CWRU writers, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. Our Writing Resource Center offers consulting in several locations on campus, including our main site in Bellflower Hall, the historic building that serves as the home for Writers House, a gathering place for writers that supports community programming, craft workshops, and the New Gutenberg Annex, which is a moveable type print lab and book arts workshop.

The annual starting base salary range for this position is from $53,000 - $58,000. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:Coursework and/or experience teaching writing at the college level to students from a variety of educational backgrounds and experiences; Ph.D. or terminal professional degree in a field relevant to the program’s mission by the start of the appointment

Preferred Qualifications:Expertise in teaching writing in the context of social science, engineering, healthcare and/or scientific disciplines; Experience working with multilingual writers; Evidence of creative, scholarly, clinical and/or industry experience relevant to the program’s mission

  • Sample syllabus for a writing-intensive seminar that includes brief descriptions of major activities and writing assignments (5 pages, maximum)
