Writing Tutor
DESCRIPTION
This position provides peer-based academic assistance and does not replace the duties of classified staff or faculty. The Writing Tutor provides supplemental academic support to students by assisting with writing development, organization, revision, grammar, and academic writing conventions in one-on-one or small-group settings. Tutors support independent learning, maintain appropriate tutoring records, and foster a welcoming and encouraging learning environment under the direction of faculty and/or learning support staff.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a Napa Valley College student
- Successful completion of college-level English composition coursework with a grade of B or higher.
- Recommendation from an English or writing instructor.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback in a supportive and encouraging manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in English, composition, literature, journalism, communications, or a related field.
- Previous tutoring, mentoring, or instructional experience.
