Yokohama City University invites applications for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the School of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and research in the fields and courses listed below and for leading the clinical departments at Yokohama City University Hospital and Yokohama City University Medical Center.
The Department of Neurology specializes in the full spectrum of neurological diseases, including cerebrovascular disorders with a focus on stroke, neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), dementia, neuroimmunological disorders, and epilepsy. The department provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care from acute neurological conditions to chronic neurological diseases.
The department plays a leading role in neurological care in the region through a network of 22 affiliated hospitals in Yokohama and Kanagawa Prefecture and offers a rich clinical environment in both neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases.
Research focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of neurological disorders, particularly neurodegenerative diseases, through translational research integrating genetic analysis, iPS cells, animal models, neuroimaging, and clinical studies.
As the burden of neurological diseases increases and stroke care becomes increasingly sophisticated, further enhancement of clinical services and collaboration with affiliated institutions is required. The continued growth of the department also calls for the strengthening of education, training of future leaders, and effective departmental management.
The next Chair is expected to provide leadership in clinical practice, education, and research; strengthen collaboration with affiliated institutions; foster future leaders; and contribute to the continued advancement of the department and the field of neurology.
