California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) is a public university that offers a range of interdisciplinary, multicultural, international and experiential learning opportunities for its students. CSUCI is located in Camarillo, California, near the scenic Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. CSUCI is the 23rd campus in the California State University system and was established in 2002 on the site of the former Camarillo State Mental Hospital.
CSUCI has a student population of 6,943 (Fall 2020), of which 6,704 are undergraduates and 239 are postgraduates. CSUCI is a Hispanic-serving institution with a diverse student body that reflects the demographics of California. CSUCI offers 54 bachelor’s degree programs, 6 master’s degree programs, 19 teaching credentials, and one doctoral degree (Ed.D) in educational leadership. Some of the most popular majors include psychology, business, health service preparatory studies, nursing, and biology.
CSUCI has a faculty of 425 (Fall 2020), of whom 153 are tenured or tenure-track. CSUCI faculty are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service. CSUCI faculty have received grants and awards from various agencies and organizations, such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Fulbright Program. CSUCI faculty are also involved in community engagement and outreach activities, such as mentoring local high school students, partnering with local businesses and nonprofits, and providing professional development for teachers.
CSUCI has a beautiful campus that spans 1,187 acres (480 ha) and features modern facilities and state-of-the-art technology. CSUCI has a library that houses over 200,000 volumes and provides access to over 100 databases and thousands of electronic journals. CSUCI has a variety of academic support services, such as tutoring, writing center, math center, and disability resource programs. CSUCI also has a vibrant student life that offers over 100 student clubs and organizations, recreational sports, cultural events, and leadership opportunities. CSUCI has an on-campus housing complex that can accommodate up to 1,500 students in apartment-style units.
