The Pohang campus of the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP), located at POSTECH, specializes in advanced theoretical physics research and education. Established as an international hub, it supports junior research groups (JRGs), focus programs, workshops, and schools that bring together leading physicists from the Asia-Pacific region and worldwide to tackle fundamental problems in physics. The campus emphasizes collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches, fostering innovation in theoretical models with links to experimental facilities at POSTECH.

  • Quantum Field Theory and String Theory: Investigations into holographic duality (AdS/CFT), integrable models, supersymmetric theories, and quantum gravity, with programs like the Focus Program on Liouville, Integrability, and Branes.
  • Condensed Matter Theory: Studies of strongly correlated electron systems, topological phases of matter, quantum phase transitions, and novel quantum materials.
  • Cosmology and Gravitation: Research on inflationary cosmology, dark energy, gravitational waves, black holes, and large-scale structure of the universe.
  • Statistical and Biological Physics: Non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, active matter, soft matter physics, and theoretical biophysics.
  • Plasma Physics and High-Energy Astrophysics: Kinetic theory of plasmas, magnetic reconnection, particle acceleration in astrophysical environments, and computational plasma simulations.
  • Quantum Information and Computing: Quantum entanglement, many-body localization, and applications of quantum information to condensed matter and high-energy physics.

APCTP's programs include annual winter and summer schools, providing intensive training for graduate students and postdocs. These activities promote theoretical advancements, with publications in top journals and collaborations across 19 member countries.12910
