Bard High School Early College Manhattan, the flagship campus of the BHSEC network founded in 2001, specializes in a tuition-free early college liberal arts program. Students engage in the rigorous Bard Sequence, earning a New York State Regents high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree from Bard College with up to 60 transferable credits over four years. The curriculum emphasizes student-centered, writing- and discussion-based seminars in small classes of 16-25, taught by faculty with terminal degrees using Bard's Writing and Thinking pedagogy. This approach fosters critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and preparation for advanced college work, particularly for underrepresented students including first-generation, low-income, Black, and Latinx youth.
The campus supports socio-emotional growth through advisories, college advising, and community engagement, ensuring holistic development in a vibrant Lower East Side location.
