Shenzhen Campus

Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China

The Shenzhen Campus of the Institute of Advanced Science Facilities is dedicated to pioneering research in advanced photon science and accelerator technologies. It focuses on constructing and operating world-class facilities like the Shenzhen Innovation Light-source Facility (SILF), China's first fourth-generation medium-energy synchrotron radiation light source tailored for high-tech industries, and the Shenzhen Superconducting Soft X-ray Free Electron Laser (S³FEL), the global first medium-energy high-repetition-rate X-ray FEL. These facilities enable groundbreaking studies in microscopic world exploration, new material development, and ultra-high dose rate radiotherapy (FLASH-RT), supporting the Greater Bay Area's national science center ambitions.

  • Accelerator Physics and Engineering: Courses on superconducting RF cavities, linac design, and storage ring optimization for next-gen light sources.
  • Synchrotron Radiation Applications: Training in beamline instrumentation, X-ray imaging, and spectroscopy for structural biology and materials science.
  • Free Electron Laser Technology: Advanced topics in seeded FELs, high-gain harmonic generation, and ultrafast pulse manipulation.
  • Condensed Matter Physics: Research-oriented classes on X-ray diffraction, coherent scattering, and quantum materials characterization.
  • Chemical Dynamics and Catalysis: Studies using time-resolved techniques for reaction mechanisms and energy conversion.
  • Biomedical Imaging and FLASH Radiotherapy: Programs on high-resolution imaging and novel cancer treatment modalities.
  • Industrial Applications: Specialized modules for semiconductor metrology, battery research, and pharmaceutical development using brilliant light sources.

This campus integrates theoretical, experimental, and engineering disciplines, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to drive scientific frontiers and industrial innovation.
