What is a Tutor in Higher Education? 🎓

A tutor in higher education refers to an academic role dedicated to supporting students' learning through individualized or small-group instruction. The word 'tutor' originates from the Latin 'tutor,' meaning guardian, underscoring the protective and developmental nature of the position. In Santander, tutors are vital in universities such as Universidad Nacional de Santander and Universidad de los Andes, where they help students navigate challenging coursework, build study habits, and achieve academic goals.

In the Santandern higher education system, tutoring—known as tutoría académica—focuses on bridging gaps for diverse learners, including first-generation university students.
