🎓 What Are Research Positions?

Research positions in higher education refer to roles dedicated to advancing knowledge through systematic investigation. These jobs, often called research jobs or academic research positions, involve designing studies, collecting and analyzing data, and disseminating findings via publications or conferences. Unlike teaching-focused roles, research positions prioritize innovation and discovery.

The meaning of a research position centers on contributing to a field, such as engineering or medicine. Historically, these roles emerged in the 19th century with modern universities, evolving post-World War II into structured postdocs and fellowships. In Aley District, research positions gained prominence at institutions like the American University of Beirut (AUB), founded in 1866, which has pioneered studies in public health amid regional conflicts.
