🎓 What is a Tutor?

A tutor in higher education is an academic professional who provides personalized guidance and support to students, helping them master course material, develop study skills, and achieve academic success. The term 'tutor' derives from Latin 'tutor' meaning guardian or protector, reflecting the role's mentoring aspect. In universities, tutors often work alongside lecturers, offering supplementary instruction in small groups or individually.

In Cusco, tutors play a vital role in the higher education system, which includes over 140 universities regulated by SUNEDU (Superintendencia Nacional de Educación Superior Universitaria). They address challenges like large class sizes and diverse student needs, contributing to improved graduation rates. For instance, at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Cusco's oldest university founded in 1551, tutoring programs support undergraduates in fields like engineering and humanities.
