Abby Milon, J.D., serves as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Legal Studies within the University of Central Florida's College of Community Innovation and Education. She earned her Juris Doctor in 1987, Master of Science in 1983, and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1981 from the University of Florida, along with an Associate of Arts degree from Indian River Community College in 1979. Prior to her academic career, Milon practiced law extensively, including as a solo practitioner at the Law Offices of Abby Fromang Milon from 1992 to 2000, associate attorney at Law Offices of G. Gregory Hale and Holden, Williams, Murphy, Eubank & Siegel, P.A., and law clerk positions. She joined UCF in 2001 as Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice & Legal Studies, advancing to Instructor from 2004 to 2013, Lecturer from 2013 to 2014, and Associate Lecturer from 2014 onward, now holding the title of Senior Lecturer. Over her tenure at UCF spanning more than two decades, she has taught a wide array of courses including Legal Research, Legal Writing, Law and the Legal System, Civil Practice and Procedure, Professional Ethics, The Law of Contracts, Torts, Capstone, Negotiation Alternatives in the Law, Florida Partnerships and Corporations, Business Law and Ethics, and LEADS Scholar leadership courses.
Milon's research interests encompass Affirmative Action, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Mediation, and Arbitration. Her scholarly contributions include a chapter titled 'Equal But Separate: Study of College Student Social Groups Post Affirmative Action in Florida after Gratz and Grutter' in the 2014 anthology Controversies in Affirmative Action (Praeger), 'Tax Reform: Its Impact on Agriculture' in Agricultural Outlook (U.S.D.A., 1985), and her Master's thesis 'The Development and Analysis of a Model of Cooperative Finance' (University of Florida, 1983). She has delivered presentations such as 'Gaming to Win in Alternative Dispute Resolution' at the Sunshine State Teaching and Learning Conference (2017), 'Generating Settlements Through Lateral Thinking Techniques' at the Florida Dispute Resolution Center Conference (2017), and 'Virtual Job Interviews in the Classroom' (2018). Milon has received numerous accolades for her teaching excellence, including multiple Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Awards from the College of Health and Public Affairs (2006, 2010, 2015), Teaching Incentive Program Awards (2007, 2012, 2017), Phi Alpha Delta Exceptional Professor Award (2005), and LEADS Scholar Faculty Awards (2003-2006). Her service includes membership on the Undergraduate Research Council since 2010, chairing lecturer promotion committees, and supervising numerous Honors in the Major theses and independent studies, contributing significantly to undergraduate legal education and student mentorship at UCF.
