Professor Adalat Jalal Muradov serves as Rector of Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), appointed by presidential decree in 2014. Born on January 29, 1962, he graduated with honors from the School of Economics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1990, having earned second place in the Union-wide Olympiad on organization of economy and production in 1989. He completed his postgraduate studies there in 1993, defending a thesis on structural changes of the regional economy in the transition to a market economy, and obtained his Doctor of Economics degree in 1998 with a dissertation on the integration of the transition economy into the world economy. Earlier, he graduated from a chemistry-biology oriented secondary school in 1979 and served in the military from 1980 to 1982.
Muradov's distinguished career spans academia, business, and public service. From 1995 to 1999, he taught macroeconomics, economic policy, international economics, and the general theory of transition economies at Kyiv State University while heading Profi-AD LTD and directing a department on post-Soviet transition economies at Austria Securities Investment Bank. Since 1999, he has been a professor at Azerbaijan's Academy of Public Administration under the President, instructing on macroeconomy, public regulation of the economy, and Azerbaijan's economic policy. From 2002 to 2014, he led key departments at the Ministry of Economic Development, including macroeconomic analysis and forecasting, foreign trade policy and WTO accession, and economic policy, analysis, and forecasting. His research focuses on transition economies, macroeconomic analysis, foreign trade policy, integration into the world economy, and economic policy; he has authored three textbooks, three monographs, three educational programs, and over 60 scientific articles. Muradov chairs the Public Council under the Ministry of Economy, serves on the YAP Board and the Supervisory Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund, and has received the Order of Glory in 2020 and the jubilee medal '100 years of Heydar Aliyev' in 2023. Fluent in English, Ukrainian, and Russian, he holds the rank of State Counselor.
