Dr Adam McKay holds both academic and clinical positions in the field of clinical neuropsychology. He is an Associate Professor in Psychology and a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychological Sciences at Monash University, where he is involved in teaching, research, and clinical training within clinical neuropsychology. He leads the Neurorehabilitation Clinic at the Turner Clinics, a training and research clinic at Monash University that provides neuropsychological rehabilitation services to the community, conducts clinical research, and trains future clinical neuropsychologists. Additionally, he serves as a Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist in the Brain Injury Programme at Epworth Healthcare, delivering rehabilitation to clients with traumatic brain injury and other neurological conditions. McKay is part of the Brain Injury and Rehabilitation research theme in the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health at Monash University and acts as a Senior Academic at the Monash Epworth Rehabilitation Research Centre. Over the past decade, his work has focused on understanding the impact of brain injury on individuals' lives and assisting with management of common post-injury changes such as cognitive difficulties, emotional distress, and alterations in life roles. He earned his PhD in Psychology from the University of Melbourne in 2005.
McKay's research centers on functional and psychosocial outcomes following brain injury and rehabilitation, including the role of clinical interventions in improving outcomes related to fatigue, depression, and anxiety. His efforts are supported by Monash PhD and Honours students, as well as grants from the National Health and Medical Research Council, Institute for Safety, Compensation, and Recovery Research, Monash University, and Epworth Research Institute. Key publications include 'A systematic review and meta-analysis of sleep following mild traumatic brain injury: A synthesis of the literature according to age and time-since-injury' (2025), 'Delivery of Neuropsychological Interventions for Adult and Older Adult Clinical Populations: An Australian Expert Working Group Clinical Guidance Paper' (2024), 'Family experiences of supporting a relative with agitation during early recovery after traumatic brain injury' (2024), and 'Implementation of activities of daily living retraining for individuals in post-Traumatic amnesia' (2024). He has produced 67 research outputs, including 56 articles, 6 review articles, and 2 book chapters, emphasizing translation of research developments into clinical practice through his joint roles at Monash and Epworth.
