Dr. Adam Rock is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of New England, where he also serves as Chair of the School Education Committee and Deputy Head of School. He holds a B.A. (Honours) and Ph.D. from Charles Sturt University, along with a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from Deakin University. Rock teaches courses including PSYC202: Research Methods and Statistics, PSYC206: Cognitive Psychology, and PSYC424: Advanced Topics in Psychology. His research interests focus on altered states of consciousness, poker-machine problem gambling, flying phobia, early maladaptive schemas, and the link between adult attachment styles and psychopathology. Supervision areas under his guidance include addiction topics such as poker machine problem gambling and video game addiction; clinical psychology areas like aviation phobia and the connections between adult attachment and anxiety, depression, or obsessive-compulsive symptomology; transpersonal psychology with an emphasis on spiritual emergency; and cognitive psychology encompassing mindfulness, phenomenology, and altered states of consciousness.
Rock has contributed extensively to the fields of parapsychology and transpersonal psychology as an editor and author. Key edited volumes include Advances in Parapsychological Research, Volume 10 (2021, with S. Krippner, H. L. Friedman, and N. Zingrone), The Survival Hypothesis: Essays on Mediumship (2014), In Search of Psi: Contemporary Perspectives on ESP, Psychokinesis, and Survival (2014, with L. Storm), and Advances in Parapsychological Research, Volume 9 (2013, with S. Krippner, J. Beischel, H. L. Friedman, and C. L. Fracasso). Notable books he co-authored or authored are Demystifying Shamans and Their World: A Multi-Disciplinary Study (2011, with S. Krippner), Shamanism and Psi: Imagery Cultivation as an Alternative to the Ganzfeld Protocol (2011, with L. Storm), and Constructivism and Shamanic Experiences: A Psychological Study (2010).
