About Adrian

Adrian Loo is an Associate Professor (Practice Track) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and serves as Deputy Director of the NUS Centre for Nature-based Climate Solutions. He obtained his PhD from NUS in 2001, with research focused on palms in the montane forests of Peninsular Malaysia, and holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (Distinction) from the National Institute of Education, Singapore. His academic background also includes a post-doctoral fellowship at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Loo previously held senior roles at the National Parks Board (NParks), including Group Director of Wildlife Management and Senior Director of Community Projects, where he contributed to conservation efforts such as CITES management.

At NUS, Loo is affiliated with the Department of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Science, with research interests in ecology, evolution and biodiversity, conservation genetics, wildlife, palms phylogeny, bioacoustics, environmental DNA, and conservation technology. He leads the Lab for Advancing Protection of biodiversity with Innovative Solutions (LAPIS). His work has resulted in publications on topics including natural hybrids of plant species and taxon descriptions, with citations exceeding 470 on academic platforms. Loo has authored or co-authored peer-reviewed papers and contributed to biodiversity protection initiatives through his roles at CNCS and prior positions.
